Women of Wisdom

WOW!

(Women of Wisdom)

 He also taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words; Keep my commands, and live. 5 Get wisdom! Get understanding! Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. 6 Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you;
Love her, and she will keep you. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; Therefore get wisdom.
And in all your getting, get understanding. (NKJV)

"Take this to heart. Do what I tell you—live!
Sell everything and buy Wisdom! Forage for Understanding!
Don't forget one word! Don't deviate an inch!
Never walk away from Wisdom—she guards your life;
love her—she keeps her eye on you.
Above all and before all, do this: Get Wisdom!
Write this at the top of your list: Get Understanding!
Throw your arms around her—believe me, you won't regret it;
never let her go—she'll make your life glorious. (MSG)

“Her words are ones that reveal wisdom and she provides positive and uplifting instruction with the words she shares"

WISDOM defined:

- the quality or state of being wise; knowledge of what is true or right coupled with just judgment as to action; discernment, or insight.

- scholarly knowledge or learning: the wisdom of the schools.
-wise sayings or teachings; precepts.

-wise act or saying.

Many people define wisdom as the accumulation of knowledge, but it is just as important for us to APPLY that knowledge to our lives.

Proverbs stresses over and over how important it is for us to have wisdom.

“Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great as a knowing fool. But how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.” Charles Spurgeon

So what are some ways we can get wisdom?

1. Block the negatives.

In other words, guard your heart!

Proverbs 4:20-27

20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. 24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put perverse lips far from you. 25 Let your eyes look straight ahead, And your eyelids look right before you. 26 Ponder the path of your feet, And let all your ways be established.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

The things that you put into your mind, your eyes and your ears will eventually take root in your heart. Seeking wisdom starts with feeding the right things into your spirit.

The words you allow into your heart will come out in the words we say. Your words have power, whether you mean them or not.

Proverbs 18:21

Words kill, words give life;
they're either poison or fruit—you choose. (MSG)

Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
And those who love it will eat its fruit. (NKJV)

James 1:26

If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless.

What you allow into your heart and mind influences who you become.

“Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life. If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted. If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten. If you want different results in your life or work, all you have to do is change your mind.”

We are bombarded every day by images, information and ideas. There is a lot that we don’t have control over, so we must be diligent to be careful about what we do have control over.

- Start your day with praise and giving thanks. Start out positive. Decide to wake up and focus on the good things God has done each morning.

- Refuse to yell. Speaking in a lower tone helps to lower your emotions. No one likes to be yelled at.

- Skip the sarcasm and insults. Be sincere or be quiet.

-Allow the Holy Spirit to be your filter. Allow Him to check your heart before you speak or act. Is what you are about to say or do pleasing to the Lord? WWJD?

- Turn off the news.

- Turn off negative TV shows and music. Stop watching things that make you angry, irritated or annoyed.

- Find new people to be around. Your friends influence you, no matter what your age or season in life.

- Think happy thoughts. Focus on your blessings.

2. Feed the positives

-Watch and listen to positive and uplifting shows and movies.

- Keep positive music in the background.

-Take a media fast. Take time to shut out the noise of life and focus on listening to God and what He has to say to you.

-Fill your home with positive quotes and sayings.

-Memorize a Scripture each month (or week).

-Be a reader. Read books that focus on areas you struggle with or want to learn more about.

-Keep a blessing notebook.

3. Seek Out Wise Counsel

Wisdom comes to people from all walks of life and all ages.

-Search for people that are speaking words that will build you up and grow you to the place you desire. Surround yourself with encouragers.

-Search for prayer partners. We need to have people in our life that will lift us up in prayer. The world seeks to crush your spirit, but prayer partners can serve as barriers to those things the world throws in your direction.

-Make time to visit with different groups. Create opportunities to meet new people and open up opportunities for you to grow from their wisdom.

-Watch your own words. The things you say reflect the things you are hearing.

-Be willing to move on. Just because you were a close friend to someone at one time does not mean that they need to continue to stay in your life as someone who influences you.

-Find a mentor. Look for someone who is where you want to be and let them help to pull you up to their level.

-Mentor someone else. Feeding someone else’s wisdom will help push you to feed your own wisdom as well.

4. Learn for Yourself

-Know what the Bible says for yourself, not just what someone else says.

-Take notes when listening to a preacher or teacher so that you can do more research on the topic yourself or ask questions if necessary.

-Spend consistent time in the word.

-Be wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove. Ask questions respectfully, even good teachers make mistakes.

-Listen to the Holy Spirit. He will speak to you and guide you if you will ask Him and listen.

James 1:5

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given him.”

5. Make Wisdom a Priority

-No amount of time spent watching TV, reading, or doing fun activities will be able to compete with God’s Word and spending time with Him.

-Ignore your excuses and choose to make getting wisdom a priority.

-Don’t look at the people around you. What does God expect from you?

-Look for opportunities. Where are you wasting time? What can you replace and use to spend time with God and His Word?

Make a schedule. Set a pattern.

Getting to an extraordinary life often comes by making exceptional choices.
